One of my former neighbours when resident in France was Pierre Soulage, the much venerated French painter whose exhibitions include The Pompidou Centre as well as a museum dedicated to him in Rodez, the Musee Soulage. His works were always a deep mystery to me and I tried hard to grasp the underlying concepts including tachisme. This work represents one work in which I finally felt at home with his approach. He is considered the greatest living French artist and well-deserved as he continues to work at the age of one hundred last December.
